AviTravel: Discover the world with us

Gatwick Airport is the second largest airport in London, located approximately 45 kilometers south of the city center. There are several transportation options from the airport to central London, including trains, buses, taxis, and Uber.

National Express Bus

This is one of the most economical options, but it takes the longest time. It costs approximately 10 pounds but takes about 2 hours. This option is not recommended if you want to save time and make the most of your stay in London.

You can purchase tickets from their website.

Train from Gatwick Airport South Terminal

From the South Terminal, you will have various trains available to the city center. If your flight arrives at the North Terminal, don't worry, Gatwick has a free train service that connects both terminals. Let's explore the different trains to reach the center.

Gatwick Express to London Victoria

The fastest but most expensive option among the train choices. It takes approximately 30-40 minutes with a frequency of every 15-20 minutes. The price ranges around 20 pounds. You can purchase tickets online from their website or directly at the station ticket counters. In addition to these payment options, you can use your Oyster card or contactless card, which they claim is 10% cheaper.

Southern Line to London Victoria

This is the option I always use; it is almost as fast as the Gatwick Express, with a duration of 40-50 minutes and a price ranging between 13-15 pounds. You can purchase tickets from their website, at the ticket counter, or use your Oyster card or contactless card. We always use the contactless card.

Are you tired of paying bank commissions for currency exchange?
We present the perfect cards for you. Forget about annoying hidden fees when using different currencies than pound:

Thameslink to London Bridge or King's Cross

Another equally economical option to Southern Line is Thameslink, another train company that takes you to London Bridge or King's Cross. Depending on where you want to go, one option may be more suitable than the other. The price is around 15 pounds, and the duration ranges from 30 to 50 minutes, depending on the final destination.

You can purchase tickets from their website, at the ticket counter, or use your Oyster card or contactless card.

Taxi or Uber to Central London

You can also use a taxi; however, the price can be quite high, reaching 100 pounds for the journey. Renting an Uber will cost you between 50 and 70 pounds.

Choosing the Best Option

The best option for getting from Gatwick Airport to central London depends on your budget and needs. If you're in a hurry and want to reach central London as quickly as possible, the train is the best choice. If you have a tight budget, the bus is the best option. If you prefer the comfort of a taxi or Uber, these options are more expensive but also more convenient.
