Katakolon is a coastal town in the Peloponnese, Greece. It's a popular destination for cruises as it's situated near the archaeological site of Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games.

Visit the Archaeological Site of Olympia

The most popular destination to visit if you have a stopover in Katakolon is Olympia.

Olympia is a UNESCO archaeological site that houses the remains of the stadium, gymnasium, and other ancient buildings. It's a fascinating place to learn about the history of the Olympics.

However, if you're not a history enthusiast or don't opt for a guided tour, this destination may not interest you much. That's why we recommend a second plan for your time in Katakolon.

Head to St. Andrew Beach

St. Andrew Beach in Katakolon

This was the option we chose. To get there, you have to go to the town square (it's less than a 5-minute walk once you leave the ship) and purchase a ticket for the tourist train. It costs €8 per person, and you can use it all day. This train takes you from Katakolon to the beach and back. The train gets you to the beach in less than 30 minutes. The distance is very short, and the train runs every 30 minutes.
